The
8 hour HAZWOPER training has been designed for general site workers whose job includes removing hazardous waste or who are exposed (or potentially exposed) to hazardous substances or
health hazards.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is designed to meet the requirements in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for 8 hours of annual
refresher training for workers at hazardous waste sites. The HAZWOPER 8 hour course topics include HAZWOPER regulations, hazardous chemicals, safety and health plans,
safety hazards, medical surveillance, site control, air monitoring, decontamination, personal protective equipment, and respiratory equipment.
Seat Time: This course has been accepted for 8 hours of initial training.
Prerequisites: Workers must first complete the 24 hour or 40 hour of HAZWOPER to enrol this course.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Characterization of the site for identifying the hazards that can possibly be present in the workplace and the steps to minimize the hazards.
- Understanding the requirements and regulations of OSHA.
- To develop a Medical Surveillance Program and understand the purpose.
- Understand toxicology principles and their relation to the various types of chemical exposures.
- Understand decontamination methods, principles of decontamination and levels of decontamination.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Understand potential hazardous situations that involve oxidizers, solvents, corrosives and reactive chemicals.
- Understand various considerations during an emergency and the importance of training and actions to personal safety and that of others.

QUIZZES and TESTING:
At the end of each module, there is a quiz in which the trainee must acquire at least 70% of minimum score to progress to the next module.
There is also a final quiz at the end of the course which the trainees must take and with the same 70% minimum score to clear the exam. If the student is not able to clear the final exam on the first try then there are two additional attempts to clear the exam at no additional charge.
After successful completing the
8 hour HAZWOPER training course, trainees will receive the certification of completion.
